Quick Over Nighter On The Swale - A New PB!!!

Got down on  the Swale last night about 6ish and all setup for 7:30, took me that long to choose a peg! Was canny busy last night and all the good pegs were took or so I thought ;)

Fished two rods both with cage feeders and 2ft hook lengths, one with corn one with pellet over a bed of groundbait and mixed particles..

I was sat down on the next peg with two lads having a few beers with them, always nice to meet new people when fishing :D

Anyway got to just before 12 and I said I'm sure my bite alarms just lite up, didn't light up on the receiver? So went over to check and all seemed fine, whilst I was there I went to take the rod out the water and the line was over my other rod, hmmm seems I had a run!.. Started to wind in when alls I felt was bang!!!! Fish was still on!! After a good long scrap one of the lads from the next peg come and netted it, got it up the bank weighed it and the scales went to 5.15lb... New PB woohoo..
I was happy I improved on my 4.08lb from last week (which was my previous personal best)..

Went to sleep a happy man, wasn't bothered if I caught any more cause that was 2 in 2 and 2 personal bests in 2..
Got to 2:45 and my rod screamed off again! This time the one with pellets on.
Fish headed straight upstream? Wasn't expecting that I thought they normally went down stream.. Got the fish near the edge and then it decided it wanted to go in the snags...
So tightened the drag up and was trying to hold it away from the trees, thought my arm was gonna get ripped off, ran down the bank and netted it.
I could see straight away it was deffo bigger than the last, I took the hook out the fishes mouth and noticed that the pressure the fish was pulling at whilst I was holding it had snapped the tip of the hook off :/
Note to self: don't use korum specimen hooks again...
Got the weigh sling out and zeroed the scales, put the fish in and scales went straight round to 9.01lb!! W00000T another pb!! I was on a roll ;)

So rebaited both rods and at about 6am, the sweet corn rod screamed off again!!!! Couldn't believe my luck :D
After another battle with a barbel I got it in weighed it and scales showed 7.09lb..

This turned out to be one of my best and most rememberable river trips yet :)

Hard Days River Fishing - On The Tees

Mr mick took time out his busy fishing schedule to come fishing with me, very kind of him ;)
We went to one of the Stockton stretches, had a quick walk about and chose our swim...

I opted for the cage feeder fishing maggot, whilst mick also fished the feeder but with worm and pellet.

Was hoping for some chub and bream but didn't pan out like that lol.. Started off well plenty of bites but couldn't seem to hook them, was probs just small dace, persevered with the feeder and managed to hook a decent roach of about 10oz, after a few hours on the feeder I thought a change of tactics was in order and stuck a pike rod out.
Shortly afterwards I had a run but missed it.
My theory was I was using a fixed treble trace for small dead baits but i was using a bigger bait so didnt cover enough of the fish, around an hour later no more runs mick said to pop my pike rod out near the tree in his swim, was out about 30-40mins and i heard
Mick shout 'ronny ya pike rods going off!!!'...
I leaped up and hit the run, fish on!!!   After a spirited fight for a few mins the fish was in the net.
Weighed  it and scaled went to 7.05lb, can't grumble at that :)

Shortly after my pike I tried with the cage feeder again but the bites dried up. Tried the maggot feeder for a bit and managed 3 small dace, switched back to the cage feeder and got another good roach.

Time was getting on so packed up and headed home, enjoyed the day, even if the fishing was hard!

Mick stuck it out on worm and pellet all day for the chub, he managed a small perch, least he never blanked ;)

A Mixed Day Fishing - Rudd & Pike

Went over to firthmoor ponds for 3 hours whilst my mate took his daughter to swimming lessons, wouldn't of normally bothered but fancied a change and beats being sat at home..
Opted for the waggler with single white/red maggots, and from the off I was pulling Rudd out for the fun..
98 Rudd, 3 perch and 3 gudgeon.

Nothing big but good sport!

Once my mate got back we went pike fishing, that was the plan all along but cause of swimming our plans had to change.. Anyway off to our chooser venue for a few hours (won't name where as I dont like saying on an open forum when it's about pike but sure most will know)

Got there set up and within 10 mins was into a pike, nothing big but I love summer piking, the tail walking is awesome, anyway got it in and weighed it and it was 4.04lb

Then another come run! And felt a bit different? Got it close to the edge and seen flashes of red! That's when I knew I was into a nice perch, a personal best perch! Weighed a nice 2.09lb.. Not a uk record but I was well over the moon
