My Pike Season - Finally Over

Its finally over, after a hard season i feel happy as i finally have a new PB of 12.13lb and managed to bank 6 doubles and 24 pike under 10lb... the weather didnt help us at all, one day it would be sunny then the next snowing, but me and my mate persisted and although we had a few blanks we did have a good season.
The one i will remember the most is when we fished cundall lodge! managed my first double figure pike there but managed to get stuck in the mud near the river bank and had to be pulled out by the farmer with his tractor, then the time after that we got half way home and my alternator went! the joys of cars..

We tried a lot of new venues and learnt a fair bit about them even if we did blank at a few of them.. This year has been one big learning curve and i feel we are ready to tackle next year much better ;)

The last Piking trip was yesterday and we went to selby 3 lakes, we got there for about 7:30am and was all set up for around 8am, i opted to fish 2 running leads and a sliding float, around 8:30 i had my first run and went to hit it and nothing there! so casted it in the same spot and about half hour later i had a run again! MISSED IT!!... from fishing selby before i knew the pike are very wary so i chopped the bait in half (trout) to get better coverage with the trebles, so i casted it to the same spot and within 15mins i had another run! this time i managed to hit it and it resulted in a small pike around 3lb

The day was passing and no movement on the water except the cormrants! so i ended up having a little snooze waiting for the alarms to scream but nothing!
It got to around 4PM and i thought fuck it im gonna move to the other side of the lake, so i upped sticks and went to the corner peg and there was bait fish rolling on the top!
I put fresh bait on and casted out the rods and within 30 mins i had a run.. but MISSED IT, got a bit excited and hit it to early! doh.....
An hour passed and still no runs, so fresh bait was needed, so i put a fresh Bluey tail end of and casted it around 1.5 rod lengths out and waiting 20mins or so before my rod went screaming off, this time i left it a bit longer and hit it and felt a nice fish, the new fox warrior rod i got really did me proud, handled the fish with ease and i felt in control at all times, something i didnt really get with the diawa black widows...
Anyway managed to get it in after a short scrap, i wasnt convinced it was a double and gary thought the same til he tried lifting it out! he thought it was around 13-14lb, i also thought the same... we got the trebles out and put it in the weigh sling and it tipped the scales at 12.07lb! although not a PB i was well happy with it being such a hard day.

That was the last fish of the day although Gary had a few knocks on the float they just werent taking his bait.. we ended up leaving around 8pm, i left rather pleased as it was a nice fish to end the season! roll on next season but til then the carp/tench/barbel are screaming my name ;)
